JB Dessert: Taman Pelangi La Gourmet Dessert Shave Ice

Most of the times, JB can be quite hot and sunny! So for such weather, shave ice is definitely one of the best desserts that you can ever ask for! Malaysia is famous for their ice kacang but today I'm gona introduce a chilling cold Taiwanese dessert!

La Gourmet is a Taiwanese restaurant that offers both meals and dessert! They are famous for their Mango Ice Mountain, La Gourmet Loh and Mango Ice Hill. The shop itself is a pretty nice place to hang out with friends and enjoy a bowl of icy cold dessert.

Tadaa! This is the La Gourmet Loh! It consists of Mango, Strawberries, Lychee, Kiwi and a Mango Ice Cream ball at the very right top of the hill. This mountain of shave ice is enough to feed 6 people. Made of juicy fresh fruits, it is a hill of goodness that is definitely worth the buy. Besides that, if you deep further, you will find some red bean and bubble tea bubble that is hidden deep within the mountain of ice.

 RM 35.90 per mountain!!

Another glimpse of this icy cold dessert!

All in all, it was fun to eat! Taste wise pretty average. If given a choice I would definitely opt for a bowl of ice kacang or chendol! But still, it is a good choice when you are out with a large group of friends :)

My liking: 7/10

JB Leisure: Bowling anyone?

What do you do when you have some free time to spare? Growing up in JB, I know that you can't really do much in this small little city. Aside from shopping and jogging, I can't really think of anything else that I actually do on a regular basis.

Well, bowling is one option! The nearest bowling alley that you can find downtown is located at Taman Pelangi. Besides it being a little run down, bowling is considerably cheap and convenient.

A long stretch of bowling alleys.

Second place! Not bad! Haha!

The bowling alley charge RM4.50 per game and an additional of RM 2 for the shoes. Be sure to bring your own socks or you could just add 50 cents more for it. All in all, I paid RM 6.50 for the game.

Address: Lvl 2, Lot 2.09, Pelangi Leisure Mall, 148, Jalan Serempang, Taman Pelangi, 80400, JB

Before heading home, you could also drop by Giant, a local hypermarket that is located at level 1. Recently, Giant took on a new layout and everything seems much cleaner now :)

JB Food: City Square Delicious Cafe

Yay! After such a long time, I finally found the time to meet up with a couple of good friends!

Food, fun and laughter! That was all we had for the entire day. Definitely a day well spent!

JB is a pretty quiet town. There ain't that many shopping malls that you could actually explore and chill.Well, maybe 5 or so? It seems that for the past few months, City Square has undergone quite a major transformation. There are new shops, new restaurants and new areas to hang out. For lunch, the girls and I tried out a new cafe located at the 6th floor, The Delicious Cafe.

The standard drink we had was something called the mango cooler. Well, it was just tea and mango syrup.

Aglio Olio, pretty plain.

The pesto spaghetti was better than the Aglio Olio.

The salad with beef bacon and poach egg was pretty ok.

Banana cake. Not really to my liking.

At first sight, the Chocolate Pudding Cake looks pretty good. But for the first mouthful, the cake was too sweet!

The tiramisu cake was ... errr.. ok...

No idea what is this. Didn't really like it.

The cafe was a pretty huge one. Big and spacious. Ambiance wise, just average. It offers a fusion of western and local food as well. We tried their weekdays set lunch that includes a main course, dessert and  a drink. The main course was either spaghetti or salad. For dessert they offer chocolate pudding cake with ice cream, Tiramisu, Banana cake and a few others that I can't really remember. All and all it was around RM20 + per person. The food itself has a good presentation but taste wise it was just average.

My liking: 5/10

Growing up in Johor Bahru

Johor Bahru (JB) is the capital city of Johor in southern West Malaysia. It is a place that I’m pretty familiar with for the past 20 years of my life. It is my kampung and a place that I actually call home. Yeap, that's right! Well, for the past few years I have grown to love my country. Despite her flaws and slow development, I'm still proud to be called a Malaysian! I love her diversity, her culture and most importantly the people.

Here's 5 facts for you:
  1. JB was founded in 1855 by Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim
  2. It started off as a small Malay fishing village
  3. Japan invaded Johor Bahru on 31 January 1942
  4. It is now one of the Iskandar Malaysia Flagship Zone
  5. Only a bridge away from Singapore
With all the latest development like the Iskandar Project, this humble little city has definitely been growing and developing. Well, slowly but surely. It has been attracting lots of foreign investments and no doubt that in the coming days, JB's quality of life would definitely be much better.\

I’m glad to be back from Hong Kong and I definitely can’t wait to have fun and live life to the fullest!
